Every weekend, a group of us sign up at  The Nuthouse Scribblers blog and post a sexy snippet: 7 sentences from a work in progress. Here’s mine for the week again from  Lily and the Mechanic.

It’s a historical novella set in London 1898.

Her own heat made every stitch of fabric stick to her skin. Damn it, she needed to breathe but there wasn’t enough air in the carriage as she took the leap.

“I want you to demonstrate how the sheaths are used… with me.” Her body was a total stranger, flooded by the thumping beat of her heart; it pounded so loudly she could hardly hear what she’d said.

His eyebrows drew down, the air between them tight as those ocean blue eyes locked on her with blazing intent. “Lily?”

She nodded, “yes, in the carriage, right now.”

Her heart was beating in her throat, if she swallowed she would choke; and then the corners of that wonderful mouth lifted in genuine delight and it was as if it opened a hatch because the air rushed deep into her lungs like it was the first breath she had taken in her life.
