The Weekend Writing Warriors share 8 sentences over the weekend. Here are mine from the start of a historical novella set in Victorian London called Lily & the Mechanic.
Lily and the mechanic, have just beaten off some thugs in a disreputable part of London late at night. They have run through the side streets heading to where their carriage is waiting. If flows on into the sexy snippet in the post below for those of you interested.
London 1898
“Stop,” she faltered, stretched one arm out against the wall as she held her side, “stop, I can’t go on.”
Her bonnet had fallen off somewhere in that last sprint and her hair was half out of its pins. The veil he’d sent that morning was ripped across her face showing the fullness of her lips.
That overly big mouth made his stomach flip.
Lily looked up at him breathing hard, he was too. The rain was coming down and they were wet to the bone. Then she smiled, all the way into her eyes and more, a soft invitation.

Sigh….beautiful…I can feel the moment
Mmm…wet and disheveled– nice moment!
A sumptuous snippet but also melancholic… in a way. I love the ‘rain’ 🙂 xxx

Very descriptive. Nice!
Nothing like danger to get the blood flowing. Very lovely scene setting with vivid sensual details.
I like how it ended with a note that’s leaves suspicion. What’s next? An invitation to what…
These two are so meant for each other! I love the setting too…great snippet!
Oooh, that final line is so full of promise. Really enjoyed this excerpt. Well done, Elsa! 🙂
Love that last line. 🙂
Love the atmosphere and the chemistry jumps off the page! Well done.
Great snippet. I can tell that he really cares about her. It’s so sweet the way he notices her body and lips. I like the line of “here’s his invitation”. I can only imagine what happens next!
Keep smiling,
Yawatta
