The Weekend Writing Warriors share 8 sentences over the weekend. Here are mine from the start of a historical novel set in Victorian London called THE VEILED HEART.
Lily has woken the morning after she and the mechanic met and had their carriage tryst. He has sent a veil to replace the one he broke.
London 1898
Lily opened the box, inside the item was wrapped in tissue paper. She tore through it and found a black veil. Soft firm lace with an exquisite design of fern leaves. Her hand shook as she pulled it out and held it up. Beautiful. But what was he thinking ending it to her?
Another card lay at the bottom of the box:
“Lily … every lesson needs to be reviewed. Wear my gift. Let me know you’ll see me again.”
